The Impact of Delays on Airline Frequencies under Different Route Structures

چکیده

In this paper, we examine the relationship between airline frequencies and delays under different route structures taking advantage of aggregated data of large US airports for the period 2005-2013. We run regressions using airline and airport fixed effects to control for different heterogeneities in data. Results of the empirical analysis show airlines operating under hub-and-spoke route structures increase frequencies in response to more frequent delays, while airlines operating fully-connected route structures do reduce frequencies. This may explain that the percentage of delayed flights is higher in hub airports than in other airports controlling for other relevant factors.

Organization's performance measurement model based on the critical success factors of the reverse supply chain in airline industry with a quality gap approach

Airline industry is one of the main infrastructures for sustainable development of a country. The quality of the reverse support service will be effective in increasing the safety and health of the structures, reducing the impact of disasters and reducing costs. The aim of this study is to evaluate the performance of an organization based on the main factors of reverse supply chain with the ser...

A Multi-stakeholder Evaluation of Strategic Slot Allocation Schemes under Airline Frequency Competition

In addition to the increasing passenger demand, airline frequency competition is another reason for the growing demand for airport resources. By providing more flight frequency, an airline attracts more passengers. As a result, demand for flight operations often exceeds capacity at congested airports, resulting in delays and disruptions. At some congested airports, the limited airport capacity ...

Estimating Domestic U.S. Airline Cost of Delay based on European Model

Researchers are applying more holistic approaches to the feedback control of the air transportation system. Many of these approaches rely on economic feedback, including the cost of delays to the airlines. Establishing an accurate mechanism for estimating the cost of a delays for each portion of a flight (gate costs, taxiing in and out costs, and en-route costs) is useful for many aspects of mo...

Multi-agent Simulation of Airline Operations and Infrastructure Utilization in the Presence of Airline Strategies

Investment in the NextGen National Airspace System (NAS) is intended to increase the effective capacity of the airspace and airports. Previous research, in several domains, has identified cases where large infrastructure investments were under-utilized due to migration and/or adaptation of users (e.g. airlines). This paper examines the impact of airline “gaming” on the use of trans-continental ...

Inherent delays and operational reliability of airline schedules

This paper explores the inherent delays of airline schedules resulting from limited buffer times and stochastic disruptions in airline operations. The reliability of airline schedules is discussed and a set of measuring indices is developed to evaluate schedule reliability. It is found that significant gaps exist between the real operating delays, the inherent delays (from simulation) and the z...
